Let me tell you about the Three Little Kittens, or should I say, OUR Three Little Kittens.
When we were trying to think of a name for our website, we had lots of ideas but the one that stuck was obvious because at the time we were the parents to three wonderful cat children: Tiger, Shadow and Stormie.
Tiger our first cat, was a stray that adopted us. After a while, we thought he needed a buddy, so Shadow came into our home. Tiger was not impressed, as Shadow was a young and spirited kitten and Tiger was used to spending his time napping and eating and being the king. There was no brotherly love to speak of.
When we moved to our current house, another stray stole our hearts, little Stormie. She was in bad shape and we were so releived to find out that we would be able to bring her into our family after she was taken to the vet and nursed back to health. She was a tiny little thing and just the right companion for Shadow. Tiger was thrilled because now Shadow left him alone and he once again could spend his days leisurely doing nothing but enjoying the life of a pampered cat.
As happens in life, we lost Tiger one December due to time and old age. He was the best cat ever. So intelligent and smart. He will forever be king in our hearts. Of course, no cat could ever replace another, as their personalities and characteristics are as unique as snowflakes. But, it happened that one spring Keith found out a state trooper had a litter of kittens and decided he would go take a look. We were not sure if we were ready for a new addition, but when he saw two little gray sisters, his heart melted.
I was called to come take a look. They had the same affect on me. We both knew we could not separate the two, so then Pixie and Dixie joined the crew. At the time, that made four cats! Shadow had a harem! 🙂 As incredible as it may sound, all four soon became the best of buds. Dixie followed Shadow around everywhere and Stormie and Pixie became play buddies. Of course, Pixie and Dixie are true sisters and totally enjoy each other’s company.
This past December, we lost our beloved Shadow. I think this was the hardest thing we both have had to deal with. Tiger’s loss was hard, but this was harder. These creatures that God has blessed us with to care for and love become so ingrained in our lives. Shadow was part Siamese and such a talker. He held regular conversations with both of us all day long. That was one of the first things I noticed afterwards….the house was so quiet. I miss Shadow.
So, that brings you up to the present and the current status of our Three Little Kittens: Stormie, Pixie and Dixie. I hope to be able to share more stories of all of our babies in the future, just thought you needed to know a brief history of our Three Little Kittens.
