Yesterday I posted a picture from the previous week, showing a dusting of snow we received on the 17th. This is not to be confused with the 14.5 inches we received from Winter Storm Jonas this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We kind of missed Winter Storm Jonas. At least we missed the part where it all came down from the sky. You see, we were in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the weekend. We left the day before it started and came back on Sunday after it ended. And Keith being the great husband he is, planned ahead and packed an old broom in the car so we could dig our car out at the airport!

We were really lucky. For one thing, Roanoke didn’t get what was originally forecast – two feet of snow. That was a huge win. And the other thing in our favor was that our connecting flight was in Charlotte, NC and they pretty much were going to make sure that airport was open so that everyone could get in for the game last night. We only had a slight delay on the Charlotte to Roanoke portion of the trip and that was mainly because the flight was overbooked due to trying to get all the stranded passengers home.

The main roads going home from the airport were drying out in the afternoon sun and we really didn’t have any issues getting home. And when we pulled into our neighborhood the snow plow was even plowing our street. That never happens so soon after a storm. We were really thankful for those guys. And we were really thankful for our neighbors. They shoveled out our driveway and our sitter’s car. That was super wonderful! I think there will be a nice big dinner in store for all that hard work.

Keith only had a little bit to shovel when we got home. He had to clear out the driveway and the mailbox and then he cleared out our neighbor’s driveway and mailbox for them. We were both exhausted but loved how pretty everything looked covered in over a foot of snow. We are so thankful that things worked out the way they did during this storm. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the next one and let’s pray that power is restored soon for those that were not as fortunate as us this time. Warmer temperatures are coming this week so hopefully this will all melt soon. But it sure is pretty while it lasts!
