I have always enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day. I am not typically a wearer of green, but I always honor the day in green of some kind, be it a top, jewelry, or earrings. And, I have red hair, freckles and green eyes, so it’s always nice to have a day where that is celebrated.
My friends and I always try to attend the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in town and always enjoy ourselves when we go. It’s a huge event, in it’s 23rd year. Last year there were over 2500 marchers and 10,000 spectators.
The friends that I go with are of Irish heritage. Their mother’s family was from Donegal, Ireland. When we visited Ireland in 2007, we made a point to visit Donegal. It is a beautiful town on the coast and we really enjoyed ourselves while there.
My family may have Irish roots also. While in Ireland we vistited Parkes Castle (my father’s side) hoping that this might be where my family hailed from at one point. But, while researching my father’s side of the family last year, I found that his family line went back to Guestingthorpe, England. Well, maybe the McMillans on my mother’s side hail from the Emerald Isle!
Anyway, on St. Patrick’s Day, everyone can be a little Irish, regardless of where we trace our family roots. Because, there is a “Wee Bit O’ Irish in All of Us!”
Erin Go Bragh!
