What do you do when you find a pretty little broken butterfly brooch that’s too pretty to throw away? You repurpose it as a pendant in a necklace!
Which is one of my favorite things to do! I love to go yardsaling and find Treasures! I also love being able to upcycle pieces and give them new life.
A couple of weeks ago Keith and I were out and I came across this vintage (90’s) Lianni Marcasite Butterfly Brooch. It was in a box of jewelry and they were asking $1 for three, so naturally I found two other pieces that I hope to repurpose in the future. But I really liked this butterfly. It’s not super old, but it is probably around 25 years old which makes it vintage, but just barely. And it had all of the amethyst colored crystals, including the eyes, which a lot of times you find missing.
The only thing that made this a 3 for $1 piece was probably the fact that the clasp was broken and no longer worked. Not a problem for me since I will usually file those off when I use a piece for a pendant on a necklace.
And that is exactly what I did! I had some large faceted rectangular Amethyst beads in my stash that I had been saving and I immediately thought of them when I started working on this piece.
I love how it turned out!
I added some Tibetan Silver Bali Style decorative beads and amethyst Swarovski Crystals.
The Amethyst gemstone beads go from medium to dark purple and were perfect for this assemblage piece.
I used a decorative hook closure that makes the necklace easy to manipulate.
I also made some long, dangly pierced earrings to go with this necklace. Since I like to wear earrings that match my necklace when I wear jewelry, I almost always make matching earrings if I can.
I really love the faceted Amethyst stones. They aren’t super polished and they look a little rough, yet they still catch the light!
These earrings are a little longer than I usually like and worn by themselves they make a statement!
Maud wears them well!
Thanks for stopping by and letting me share my Butterfly Dreams with you. I did add both pieces to my Etsy shop and you can find more of my upcycled and one of a kind pieces there!
