A few posts back I shared some recent Yard Sale Treasures with you and I even shared a preview of how I had already repurposed a pair of costume jewelry earrings into a necklace.
These are the earrings I am referring to. I don’t think they are very old, but they are in good condition and very long, much longer than I would feel comfortable wearing. And the price was right.
Which made them easy to repurpose into a pair of pendants for necklaces. This is the one that I hinted at in that original post. You can find it for sale on Etsy.
The necklace is long – it measures 29 inches.
It has a gold brass lobster claw clasp but you can easily slip it over your head without unfastening.
And the total drop on the earring pendant is 4 inches.
I found some jet black faceted beads that matched the earring perfectly.
There are round and oval and rice beads.
And gold brass spacers and disc beads.
Maud wears it well, don’t you think?
There are matching earrings, too.
The ear wires are the original costume ear wires, which means nothing went to waste.
They only have a 1.75 inch drop, compared to the original 3 inch drop.
The larger jet glass crystals have a fire polished finish.
They reflect the light a little differently and I love how the set turned out.
And this is the second necklace made with a costume jewelry repurposed earring pendant.
The drop on this pendant is not as long as the other – it is only 3.75 inches. It’s close, but still a little shorter.
And this necklace is longer, it is 34 inches.
I didn’t string this one, it’s all looped wire so it moves differently. And I used gold plated bead caps for the larger faceted jet black oval beads.
There are also some gold brass lantern beads mixed in throughout.
Because it is so long, there is not a clasp. You can just slip it over your head. Maud loves the longer length.
I don’t usually work with bright gold brass but I had fun creating these. And to think it all started with those earrings!
There are matching earrings for this necklace, too.
They are longer – 2.25 inches.
They have gold brass ear wires.
And repeat the links of the necklace.
I have had the stash of jet black glass faceted beads for a while and they really worked perfectly with those costume jewelry earrings that inspired both of these sets.
They really dress up an outfit and the colors are classic.
It was so much fun creating all of these pieces, which were a little out of the norm for me – not my usual style. And I love the fact that nothing went to waste in these Midnight Gold sets. It’s always fun to find something no one wants anymore and let it lead you to create something new, reinventing it as you go.
