On Christmas morning we usually head to my Dad’s house for breakfast. This year we made a switch and held breakfast at our house. We don’t have anything super fancy, just a breakfast casserole and sweets. This breakfast casserole is a family favorite and is not something we make often, which makes it more special and probably is why it always tastes so wonderful.
And since breakfast was at my house, it gave me a reason to use my china and set a simple and pretty table. Most nights it is just Keith and me, so I enjoy any chance to use the fussy stuff. Eating at a pretty table makes me feel good. And I never go real formal, I want everyone to enjoy the meal and the people at the table, not worry about what dish to use for what.
And I am kind of a dish collector, so I get to use those little pieces that aren’t usually found on tables today, like these mini crystal salt and pepper shakers. I have several sets of them, they kind of are for individual use, or at least in this case for pairs. I set out two sets, one on each end of the table.
They are not super fancy, and the salt is even turning the silver, but they are vintage and I love them. They are just so fun to use.
And since none of the coffee drinkers in our family present today drink any cream with their coffee, it gave me the opportunity to tuck in a few little peppermint sticks inside my creamer. These are the soft, old fashioned kind. And they fit perfectly in the creamer.
And even though we use lots of vintage silverware in our crafts, I do have a nice set of silverware for eating with. I just love how it catches the light at a table and how special you feel when you use it.
And of course, Christmas is not Christmas without my sister’s recipe for Sugar Cookies. We make them every year and Keith loves them with sprinkled red and green sugar. He also likes chocolate chip cookies, so I made a batch of them, too, and a spiced applesauce cake.
When the casserole is placed on the table, it is time to dig in. This year I made some sausage balls, too, and I think my Dad liked them as much as the casserole. We had a great morning with my Dad and Sandra and had a wonderful Christmas Day. More memories were made around a table filled with good food and set with love.
