In the Borough of McDonald, outside of Pittsburgh, on a steep hill sits an old building known as The Belgium Club. The builiding sits at the intersection of Hill and Center, which is right below where Keith’s Aunt Betty’s house is. This building has fascinated me for years. It appears abandoned almost when you look at from the outside, yet I believe it is some kind of bar or social club that is still in use today. I think it has always been some kind of “beer joint” place where drinking and gaming has gone on.
I tried looking it up on the internet, but have not really been able to find out much of anything about it. I found a few pictures someone had taken of a band supposedly playing there, but nothing about the building’s history or why it is called the Belgium Club. Now, it just appears to be a neat, old building where the pigeons like to roost. I may never know it’s history, but I will always be fascinated by it. Maybe one day the pigeons will tell it’s tale.
