On St. Patrick’s Day one should wear green. This weekend’s annual parade saw no shortage of green, in all shades and in all kinds of places. But, I think it also goes to show just how much fun people have “wearing the green.” Just look at the shots below of spectators and parade participants from Roanoke’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
I am always amazed each year at how creative some folks get. The young man and lady at the top were dancing a jig together. And for some reason, tutus are always in fashion, as well as sequins and tye dye.
There are also royals to be found, from My Ladies to little Irish Princesses and ballerinas. And guys sporting green beards and face paint.
My favorites are always the marchers for Breast Cancer Awareness. Who says you can’t be Preppy and Irish at the same time? And even wear your bunny ears or butterfly wings? My all time favorite were the strategically placed Shamrocks! Save the Ta-tas!
This year there were quite a few green mohawks present. And checkout the green tux. Where do you find this stuff?
And what parade does not have Girl Scouts and Brownies? You know, I did not see any Boy Scouts…hmmmm. The turkey in the ugly looking lime green shirt is our local Rescue Mission Mascot. And the girls at the bottom are the sweet Roanoke Roller Derby Girls. Didn’t know we had a team, but this is the second year I have seen them, and they really get into getting all decked out.
Anyway, you can clearly see that greens (and a few other colors) are definitely fun to wear. Must be why they are Lucky Irish! What a great tradition!
