I hate to admit it, but Keith and I are Weather Channel junkies. Yup, we watch the Weather Channel more than any other channel. And you know what? I am so grateful to be living in this modern age where we can get live weather updates and fairly accurate forecasts. I am constantly amazed how technology and science come together to give us an idea a week out of what to expect. And we have much better warnings for when severe weather will hit and when to prepare.
I cannot imagine living hundreds of years ago without warning of when hurricanes or severe storms such as blizzards and tornados were on their way to where you lived. I am amazed at how satellite imagery, computer generated models, radar images, etc., come together to be interpreted by meteorologists and communicated to the public. In many cases lives are saved by advance warnings of severe weather outbreaks. How did our ancestors know when hurricanes were coming? I am sure they never really knew if the snow that was starting to fall would just be a few inches or a few feet.
I am very grateful today that we do have technology and meteorologists that can help us better understand the weather and how it will impact our daily lives. I know they don’t always get things right, but they do have a much better track record going than in centuries past.
