Every year Keith and I make our own Christmas cards. It is a process that starts probably right after Christmas is over, with Keith looking for the perfect image for the next year. Once he finds the image that we want to use I go to work cropping, cleaning up and getting the image ready to print. When the cards arrive, then we go to work hand glittering them. Yup, glitter everywhere.
Sometimes it takes a bit of figuring to determine what color of glitter to use and where to place it on the card but once we have what we want, then it is time to start the assembly line. This past Sunday was the perfect day to work on the cards. It was cold and we had a nice fire going in the wood stove to keep us toasty as we glittered to our hearts content.
Here you can see a bunch of glittered cards waiting to dry and then have the excess glitter removed. This year our cards were on a shiny stock and the glitter naturally stuck to lots of places on the card after the initial shake off. That meant that we had to let them dry and then go back and re-shake and use a small paint brush to remove the excess glitter. We were able to get all of the cards glittered in one sitting this year. Of course, some years there is more glitter used than in others. This year we used gold to highlight a few details on the card. Some years we use a clear glitter to highlight all of the snow, those years we will have to have several glitter sessions.
Here you can see one of the finished cards. The rest are still drying in the dining room. It looks like a card shop with all the cards everywhere. And amazingly enough, we only had a little help from Pixie and Dixie this year. I guess they have finally figured out that glitter is not something to eat or play with so they have lost interest. They do however interrupt every so often to remind us to pet them or feed them. They know what is important! Well, the cards are ready, now I will just have to get them all addressed! How many days left until Christmas?
