I want to share a few pictures with you from our Christmas Vacation to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. I have lots of pictures to sort through of the decorated houses and buildings, but I wanted to share these today. We went to Williamsburg in the Spring with Keith’s brother Mike and his wife Vicki. I still want to get some pictures from that visit on here, (one of the many things on my to do list.) We had such a good time we decided to go back for a long weekend at Christmas with our friends.
The past weekend was the Grand Illumination so we figured if we waited a weekend we might miss some of the crowds. We went with our good friends June, Betsy and Jerry and Mike and Denise. June is the daughter of our former neighbors Bill & Betty. Mike is June’s brother and their son; Betsy is Bill & Betty’s niece.
Here is our friend June. The houses all have the most beautiful natural decorations. This was one of the few wreaths that we saw with purple in it. It was a cold, windy, but sunny day on our first day there.
Here are Mike and Denise at the Capitol. The Capitol has these lovely tall arches on the arcade that connects the two sides of the building. They are the perfect frame for pictures.
Betsy and Jerry stand in front of another door decorated with natural elements. So many things go into the decorations such as feathers, cotton, dried florals, fruits, nuts, pinecones and handmade items like dolls or tools of the trade for the decorations that adorn the shops in town.
The next morning when we went we had a few hours of overcast skies and cold before an afternoon of steady rain. We went to the Palace in the morning where we found this wonderful old gate in the garden which was another great frame for taking pictures. June and Betsy are shown here.
Betsy and Jerry.
Mike and Denise.
And Keith and me.
We had a great time, despite the weather. Here is a shot of the group on the Palace Green with the Palace in the distance. Williamsburg is a great place to visit any time of the year. But at Christmas things seem a little magical in the Revolutionary City!
