Today I want to share just a few of my favorite places in Ireland from my 2007 trip. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed everywhere we visited, but these are some of the top places on my list that I would love to see again.
The Cliffs of Moher were amazing. We were very lucky to have a warm, sunny, Spring day. The weather was perfect in fact for our entire trip. I loved being able to see the Atlantic Ocean from the “other” side.

And Blarney Castle was an all day treat.
There is so much more to do than just kiss the Blarney Stone, which we did. But exploring the gardens and caves below the castle were such an adventure.

We also found some places off the beaten path that were so remarkable. Such as this church in Fuerty, outside of Roscommon.
Or exploring the grounds around Cong Abbey and finding this idyllic scene.
Glencar Lake and falls were simply beautiful.

And we were fascinated with Benbulben.
And this view of the Burren from atop Corkscrew Hill would never have happened if we had not been forced to stop to change two flat tires. We got both at the same time when we hit one of the hidden walls of stone under some shrubbery on the side of the road. The first flat was fixed in a hairpin turn on the right below on the hill and the second was fixed at the top of the hill. Luckily both rental cars had a spare that worked.
And we had not planned on visiting the Dingle Peninsula until our innkeeper in Galway told us we had to go there to see the true Ireland.
This is the Dingle coast near Fahan. It was an amazing day. The sheep grazed all the way to the edge of the cliffs.
But some of our favorite places were the places where we got lost, like here in the Connemara.
And this was my favorite place we got lost, near Lough Corrib.
The fields were like a green patchwork quilt. It was so breathtaking.
This shot is the shot that I think of when I think of Ireland. And we found it because we were lost. Or were we? There was a reason we ended up here. Our Navigator knew we needed to be here.
Anyway, Happy St. Patrick’s Day. If you ever get to Ireland, take the road less traveled and May It Rise To Meet You!
