Mother Nature creates the best colors! Take Robins Egg Blue for instance. One of my favorite blues; right up there with crystal clear blue sky and the blue color of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This morning we went and ran a few errands and stopped by Home Depot. Keith was looking for some drill bits and on the way in we found some perennials on sale and bought a few for an empty crock by the kitchen door.
So, when I got home I went to planting. I quickly filled up the crock and realized I could have gotten a few more plants while at Home Depot to fill up some other empty spaces.
Instead of heading back to HD I thought about all of the many little volunteers we have around the yard that Keith is always fussing about and how I could probably transplant some of those into the empty pots. After all, they were growing in the middle of paths anyway and needed to be moved, so why not?
That’s when I came across this pretty little robin’s egg on the deck. Keith had seen it earlier in the morning and hadn’t had time to tell me about it. I scooped it up while on my search for path vagrants so that I would remember to tell Keith about it.
I found some feverfew volunteers along with some obedient plants and balloon flowers and headed around to the kitchen door where my empty planters were with my little eggshell carefully resting with my plants.
I was able to find a new home for the vagrants in several pots and planters and when finished I layed the eggshell in the hypertufa planter with the feverfew so that I would remember to tell Keith.
It really stood out against the dark brown potting soil and mulch. I had to run inside and get my little camera and take some quick shots in case something happened to it before I had time to tell Keith.
When I was done planting and watering, Keith walked out the kitchen door and the first thing he said was “Oh, I see you found the eggshell from the deck, or is that another one?” See, we both knew the other would be interested in seeing the shell.
I have always loved finding the different shells from the many birds in our yard. All so delicate and unique. But my favorite is always that of the Robin. One of the best shades of blue in my opinion.
