Wow, where do I begin? What can I say about my hometown, Roanoke, Virginia?
- We live here – (ha, gotcha) – it really is a great place to live
- Situated in a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains
- We have a large Star that overlooks the valley on top of Mill Mountain, hence we are called the Star City of the South
- Vibrant downtown with museums, a farmer’s market, great restaurants, shopping, living
- City life/Country life
- The Blue Ridge Parkway comes through our valley along with the Appalachian Trail
- The city used to be called Big Lick back in the day (there was a salt lick near the Roanoke River that drew wildlife to the area)
- Weather – we have all four seasons and none of them are very severe (normally)
- Lots of festivals and outdoor activities to keep you busy all year long
- Convenient to our Nation’s Capitol, beaches on the Eastern Coast, centrally located so that New York and Florida can be reached in a day by car if needed
- Rich in history – Roanoke was part of the Great Wagon Road and Wilderness Road – early settlers of our country would pass through this area when heading north/south or east towards Tennessee
