Recently on Etsy, they updated our seller info to allow an “About” page. Shop owners were encouraged to give more information about themselves, including their creative process, intimate views of their creative spaces, etc.
Well, when it comes to making jewelry, I don’t have a creative space just for making jewelry. I have a craft room where I store all of my supplies for various crafts, including my jewelry supplies, but I do not make jewelry in there. I actully make my jewelry in the dining room on an old farm table in front of our bay window where I can watch the birds and other critters and enjoy the passing seasons.
And since I don’t have a formal “studio” per se, I wasn’t sure how to handle showing pictures of my creative space. Then the derecho came and I had some time to create some jewelry pieces I had been wanting to for a while so I dragged everything out onto my “studio” table and started working. I got up for something in another room and when I came back this is what I saw. This is me working and creating jewelry. Everything out, laying out a design and arranging and rearranging until I like what I see. I don’t have fancy tools or equipment, just totes full of supplies and imagination.
I have seen lots of other artist studios and get envious at their permanent, dedicated spaces, but this is just a hobby right now and a way to relax. And I cannot think of a better view to inspire creativity than looking out that bay window during the different seasons, watching the world go by and sometimes getting help from one of my assistants, a curious cat, fascinated by a piece of beading wire or the sparkle of a bead.
