Many of you know that I love flower gardens. And that I love the bees that live and pollinate in my garden. Like my bumbles.
Or at least what until now I thought was just bumbles. You see, there is another bee that looks like a bumble but is really a carpenter bee.
Like this fella sleeping in the phlox. Yup, sleeping. You see, I wanted to find out if bees really sleep in or on flowers and sure enough, they do. And many of them are male. The females usually build the nests (you know, the Queen Bees) and are busy taking care of that part of life, so the men sleep elsewhere, many on flowers.
Like these two snuggle buddies in my phlox. You know, chillin in their bachelor pad. And while finding this information out, I discovered that these little guys are carpenter bees because they have a shiny abdomen. My bumbles have a fuzzy abdomen. Go figure.
But I still appreciate my bees because they give me wonderful flowers every year. As long as they don’t do too much damage to any wood, we should coexist peacefully. And since we live in a brick house, that means less wood to worry about. And more sleepyheads to enjoy in the morning.
