We have lots of lilies and daylilies in our yard. I don’t know the names of most of them, however there are a few that I can remember, such as this pretty peach one called Ethel Brown.
There is a local greenhouse that has an open house every spring. One of the many freebies they offer is a free plant to the first shoppers. One year they had these little daylilies and Keith and I picked up ours on our way home. The handmade tag simply read “Ethel Brown.” Well, that name stuck with me because that was my granny Parks’ first name and maiden name. I know it’s not named after her, but I do think of her when it is blooming.
One funny thing I remember about her name was an old Ray Steven’s song, The Streak. In it he talks about a streaker and tells “Ethel” not to look which when we were little we thought was hilarious. We thought he was talking about our granny, telling her not to look at the streaker.
So, this little lily brings back fun memories of my granny, the streak and good times…making it super easy to remember it’s name.
