Busy weekend! Made a few new pieces for Etsy and had a lot of fun making them. On both of them I challenged myself with new ideas.
This was inspired by the vintage wheat sheath pin. Last weekend Keith and I took a little trip to a little town called Buchanan, just up the road so to speak. It is a quaint little town with shops on the Main Street and a thriving rafting and water sports community on the James River. Anyway, we looked around in the antique shops where I found this faux marcasite pin that I thought would make a neat pendant. The pin back was broken, so I knew I would have to do a little work on getting it ready.
Keith clipped off the back pieces for the pin since I would not need them to attach the necklace to and I started laying out with some lovely amethyst nuggets. As I layed them out I changed my design due to the natural curve of the pin, changing it from a pendant to part of the actual necklace, placing it off center to take advantage of the shape.
I like how it turned out with the amethyst nuggets. Amethyst has always been one of my favorite gemstones to work with. I love the color and energy of the stones. I also made some matching earrings.
I used a couple of amethyst teardrops in these that I had leftover from a previous project.
My next project was a little more involved. It included wire work and chain and I love how it turned out.
It all started with these Australian Jasper beads that I just love. They have a turquoise/emerald green color combination that I am just totally loving at the moment. I picked up a range of bead sizes and types a while back and then found some iridescent emerald beads and little emerald crystal roundels.
When I put them all together, this is what I got. I love the different types of brass chain, too. I have used the one on the bottom for a couple of different pieces and will have to find some more as this necklace pretty much used up my stash. And the large jasper roundels with the bead caps really make a statement.
This is a longer necklace and I am happy with what I was able to accomplish. I had lots of little wires to attach and of course had a couple of curious felines that wanted to help last night as I was finishing this one up.
And yes, there are matching earrings for this one, too. I don’t always make earrings to match but I figured this statement piece needed the matching earrings. All of these can of course be found in my shop on Etsy.
