Every summer we get these little moths in the garden that look like hummingbirds. At first, that is what we thought they were. But then we found out what they really are and have been enamored with them ever since. Their scientific name is Sphingidae and according to Wikipedia, they are found in lots of places. I just know that they love our phlox and compete with the bumble bees and butterflies for the nectar.
And, like hummers, they are extremely hard to photograph. I have some decent shots that I hope to put on FAA this weekend, but today I took some of the not so good ones and played around with them in photoshop creating some vintage framing with grungy overlays.
I love watching our little “hummingbird moths” (as they are commonly called) and was happy to capture them with my lens as they went about their merry little way through the patch of garden phlox.
