Last week I shared a couple of posts about the South Side of the Cologne Cathedral’s entrance and the constant reconstruction that is going on there in Germany. Well, I just wanted to share a few more images that my friend June took that show some more details before I move on to the West entrance and North Side of the church.
I had told you about the Fleuron mold that was in front of the church and how large it was. Well, I was off a little. Here, if you look at the base, you can see people standing in front of it and you get a much better idea of how LARGE it is.
See what I mean? In the first picture you can really tell how large it is and here, like in my picture on the previous post, it doesn’t look quite so big because of how the shot was framed. But now you know how big that thing is. Imagine if one of those were to fall off the top. Man, it would do some major damage.
And remember I told you about the huge pit beside the church where they were doing all the reconstruction work? Well, June captured a great shot looking down over the fence into the pit. Lots of huge blocks of sandstone and pieces of architectural elements waiting to be crafted into a new part of the church.
And above the pit was a lovely garden. With lots of herbs, blooming wisteria and more pieces of the church in various stages of reconstruction.
I loved the different hues of greens.
This is one place that we did not have time to see on our tour but wish we had. I am really glad June got some good pictures of this hidden garden on the South Side of the Cathedral.
