Last week Keith found a really pretty glass gazing ball (kind of like this one here) that he wanted to put in our garden out front. And I decided I wanted to get a couple of pictures of it during the daylight since it was such a pretty blue color.

But as I took that first picture, I noticed something move at the base of the concrete planters. Do you see what I see in the picture above at the base of the planter on the right?

One of our little chipmunks was popping out of it’s hole under the concrete planters! We keep our concrete planters out year round since they can weather the winter, so they are the perfect spot to put an entrance to an underground tunnel!

And we have tunnels all around our front and back porches, our deck, our carport…they are everywhere!

And our chipmunks are just coming out of hibernation, so this is probably only the second or third one that I have seen this Spring.

They are such cuties and they are so fun to watch. And they like to drive Pixie and Dixie crazy when they come up on the porches in front of the glass screen doors. Pixie and Dixie can see them but cannot touch them and it can be maddening for them.

I am just glad I was being observant and noticed the little cutie. Had I made any sudden movements I would never have gotten these photographs.

They are very skittish and will quickly dart into a hole if you make any kind of movement around them.

This little fella finally came all the way out of his hole and onto the sidewalk.

But it was only for a minute or so because Pixie came to see what I was doing and he turned around and went back down into the ground. But, it is Spring, so we will see more of them as they come out to soak up more sunshine and entertain us with their antics. And by the way, I didn’t get any more pictures of the gazing ball on that day. But I can always come back another day to get those. It’s rare that I can get pictures of these fast little critters.
