Our resident groundhog, George, finally graced us with his presence this week after a long winter’s hibernation.
I caught a glimpse of him the other night while I was washing dishes.
He was rooting around in the bottom part of the garden. Now I don’t know if this is the same George or one of the offspring of the original George, but any groundhog that shows up in our yard is affectionately or grudgingly called George, depending on the current state of the garden. When he is mowing down my flowers it is grudgingly. But this week since he was eating weeds it was affectionately.
And he definitely was hungry! He spent a good hour down there filling up. And I noticed this year he is sporting a black section of fur on his shoulders. That makes me think this may be a new George.
We will never really know. But since we have been here for over 17 years I am sure this is not the original George.
And I am sure it will not be the last.
