As many of you know, I am a huge fan on Pinterest. I constantly find great ideas and inspiration there and I have even used Pinterest to help me in the past when we remodeled our bathroom. I used my Bathroom Ideas board to share my likes and ideas with my contractor and it worked out great!

Well, now I want to re-do my craft room so that it is functional and organized – so yup! You guessed it – I have a board of crafty inspiration called Crafty Spaces!

My craft room is also where my computer and desk area are. It’s a spare bedroom with a closet (that is really just a pile of mess right now) and it is also where the upstairs litter boxes are kept. And since I don’t have a broom closet, it is where I keep the vacuum cleaner and broom, etc. It serves quite a few purposes, so I have a lot of ideas saved to hopefully marry the many needs and still have a space where I can accomplish multiple tasks and keep everyone (especially Keith) happy.
So, let me show you some of the ideas I have for this space. Clicking on the image should take you to the link, unless there was not a true link when I pinned on Pinterest.
This shows one of my main goals – storage. I have storage, but it is just not the right kind. I am kind of a fan of boxes and baskets to contain the clutter of what you need to have if you are a crafty person. And I like the idea of everything having a place. And I love the idea of lots of shelves because I have lots of stuff to fill those shelves: books, scrapbook supplies, jewelry supplies, paint supplies, sewing supplies, ribbon, fabric, boxes of photos, compact discs of photos, external storage devices, gift wrapping supplies, personal family records, bills…I think you get the drift.
My friend Denise needed to go to IKEA this past weekend so I went with her and my friends June and Betsy and checked out their KALLAX shelving units. I think they will work. I would like a big one like this one and maybe the next size down to fill one of the entire walls of the room.
I don’t think I will use the desk surface that was shown in the first image. I think I will look for something on wheels that I can move around the room when it is not in use. That is where my computer will be so I want it to be comfortable, too. And I will use it as a workspace for crafting and sewing. Currently my desk faces a wall and there is a window to my right. I think it might be fun to have the desk in the middle of the room so I can look straight out the window. We have a bird feeder there, so there is always activity and I love watching the birds just as much as the cats do. And having it on wheels would allow me to push it to the side when it is not being used. I don’t necessarily need a drawer like the one above, just mainly a good sized flat surface.
I also have a closet in this room that needs a major makeover. I don’t really use it for clothes, although I have some hanging in there, but they are mostly just things I don’t wear anymore. The top shelf is full of boxes of supplies and the bottom floor is filled with boxes of personal household papers and supplies for jewelry making. I need to clean out the clothes (along with my other closet that needs a good purging) and I need to add shelves to better organize what is there while making room for my vacuum and brooms.
We removed the doors years ago and I want to keep them off. But I do like this idea. Curtains would add a soft touch to the room that will be heavy on solid components after adding a wall of cubbies for storage. I will more than likely take out the bar for hangers and add shelves.
Like this.
Or like this. And oh, that little gray cart on wheels from IKEA? It is fabulous.
My friend Betsy snagged one in turquoise for her sewing supplies. I will for sure be getting one of those, too!
I also like how this painted pegboard looks in this closet. That may work for the part where I want to store my vacuum cleaner. It would afford a place to hang my broom, dust pans, dusters and other cleaning items. The pegboard could even go on the side interior wall of the closet for extra storage without taking away space from my shelves full of fun stuff.
The last major task I want to accomplish is to find a way to hide the litter box and curb the spread of litter across the floor on a daily basis. And of course, I should have known I would find loads of inspiration on Pinterest. I think the one above is my favorite, however I would not use an actual old cupboard for something like this. But I think I can probably find something at a yard sale that I could make to look like this.
Or even this. Both of these would hide the litter box and help keep the litter where it belongs instead of all over the floor where I constantly step on it and further track it into the rest of the house. And they would even provide some additional storage since we keep their food in the kitchen.
For now though, I will keep on pinning ideas and inspiration while I hunt for items to help organize my craft room the way I want. But first, I will have to do some major purging and sell some of the current storage items that I have so I can make room for items on my “wish” list.
Do you make “wish” lists on Pinterest? Or plan projects the way I do? I would give it a try if you don’t do so already and see what you can find to inspire your next dream project.
