Living in town, so to speak, one would not expect us to have the abundant wildlife that we have. A couple of years ago we started seeing deer in our neighborhood.
Last year, we think we had some living in our bamboo patch at the bottom of our yard, and today, we saw them again. There were two of them, one smaller than the other and we think they may be the momma and baby from last year.
Last year in early June we watched a female in our yard. She was out in daylight, cautious, but out long enough for us to all catch a good glimpse of her. The next day we watched her take a newborn (still spotty and gangly, not able to walk well) up our yard across the street and up into our neighbor’s yard. At the top of our neighborhood is a wooded area, and that is where they headed.
We often see a group of 3-4 in our yard, so we know they definitely are able to find enough to eat and we think they take shelter in our little jungle at the bottom of the hill. They are fun to watch. They watch us just as much as we watch them. And they are silent and graceful in their movement. It is amazing that they are here, so close to civilization, yet hidden most of the time, until we catch a glimpse of their silent beauty.
