Our cats have always had access to plenty of catnip. We even grow fresh catnip for them and dry it for winter months. Believe it or not, even the flowers are enjoyable and a treat that they all relish.
We also are suckered in to buying the little cute, cheap toys on occasion. And most times, they enjoy them for more than an hour or so before losing interest. But, there are two little catnip mice that have stood the test of time. One is made out of cheetah fabric and the other out of leopard fabric.
For something we did not think would last that long, we really have gotten our money’s worth. We find these two mice everywhere. That is, when we can find them. Just when we think they are gone, they appear out of nowhere. It’s been a while since the cheetah mouse has shown itself, but if we looked hard enough, I am sure we would find it tucked away safely by someone for safe keeping.
The leopard mouse lately has shown up in my belongings. One morning I was getting ready for work and I checked my bag to make sure that I had keys, name badge, the usual stuff when lo and behold, tucked down in there was the catnip mouse. They knew it would be safe there. Then, about a month later, I found the leopard mouse stuck in my shoe. Again, it must be safe there!
Right now, it is on the window seat in the bedroom where Dixie has been sleeping all day. Again, it will be safe there.
What really is amazing is that the favorite catnip toy is simply an old sock filled with dried catnip with a string tied to it for adventure. This toy ends up in Stormie’s cozy (her pink fluffy bed) or in the sitting room or in the back bedroom….Most times, you will simply find it underneath a sleeping cat. It’s like their teddy bear or something. And it simply is an old sock, black now from all of the oil from the catnip and rubbing the cats have given it.
Simple pleasures and simple treasures….catnip, mice and socks.
