This morning while I was out hitting yard sales I came across this cute little Silverplate urn for $2. I am a sucker for Silverplate and I am always looking for old trophies.
This one was not a trophy, but the size and shape and $2 price was inviting. As I thought about whether or not to purchase, I remembered that I wanted to have a little planter by my kitchen door for more herbs. And I had also just picked up a basil and chocolate mint plant from the yard sale before this one. This would just do the trick.
When I got home, I went to work. It didn’t take a lot of supplies to make this a reality. I found a plastic plant pot that would fit from my stash. It was about an inch too tall, so I used clippers to quickly trim it to size. The urn does not have drainage holes, but this pot fit snugly leaving the bottom two inches of urn open to allow for some extra drainage inside. I added some dirt to the bottom of the plastic pot, placed my new herb friends inside and voila!
The basil will shoot up in the back and the chocolate mint will drape over the front. And, since they are right by the kitchen door, it will be convenient to take a pinch when I need it. I really am thrilled with my yard sale treasure!
