Last year I told you about the deer that live in our yard. They still live in our yard and we do see them from time to time. Earlier this month we again noticed one hanging around frequently.
Of course, I have no idea if this is one of the same ones or not, but she liked to hang out by the sundial and eat Keith’s succulents. My Mom was able to see her when she was here visiting.
And we told Mom how two years ago a Momma Deer had a baby in our yard and the story of us watching it walk up our path as it went up the hill. Well, guess what happened again?
Keith spotted it first, Tuesday night. It was standing by the fence and by the time I came to see it was slowly turning around to curl up in the tall vegetation. It was dusk and I could only see the silhouette, but I knew what it was.
Yesterday the contractor working on our deck mentioned that he saw it, too. I did not see it yesterday and wondered if Momma had taken the Newborn up the hill.
To my surprise, the baby was still there this morning when I hastily snapped a few pictures from a distance. Forgive the poor quality, but I did not want to alarm it or Momma, she had just walked through the yard from where we had seen Baby before. And tonight, Keith and I both saw Baby again, in the same spot, waiting patiently for Momma to return, as all Newborns instinctively will do.
I still find it hard to believe that we have such a variety of wildlife living in our yard. I am happy I was able to preserve a glimpse of this year’s baby.
