Need garden inspiration? Why not try your local nursery? We have a couple of good ones that we love to visit and Saturday one of our favorites, Walter’s Greenhouse, had their annual open house. They had specials on plants, classes to take and loads of inspiring ideas to get you motivated in your own backyard!
Walter’s is located on top of a mountain in the community of Hardy, VA, about a 20 minute drive from our house. To get there, we take one of those curvy mountain roads. But the view is amazing! Keith pulled over and I snapped this shot of the Jae Valley and Back Creek Communities of Roanoke County below.
Last year I shared pictures of their open house and this year I decided ahead of time to make sure I had my camera with me, since they have so many great ideas on how to decorate your yard with art and plants! Walter’s sells all kinds of plants, but they are known for some of the areas they specialize in: herbs, succulents and topiaries. Here is one of their succulent wreaths – they were having a class later in the day, wonder how that went?
They also have wall art for your garden, like these framed succulent pieces.
Interesting textures.
Here are two side by side. Each piece used different types of succulents to create unique living art for your wall.
Aren’t these just amazing?
Each year they have tons of topiaries ready for you to buy, too. Like this Frog!
Or this adorable Bunny Rabbit!
And this Turtle! The forms are covered in moss with succulents popping through everywhere.
This kitty cat was my favorite!
I don’t remember seeing them before this year.
These topiaries are tucked in all over the greenhouse. You have to look carefully to find them all.
Something new this year were Fairy Gardens. Isn’t the little gazing ball a nice touch?
And the little gnome hidden in the greenery.
There was also a cool Fairy Garden inside a metal orb.
Such delicate details.
One thing about Walter’s, they always have the neatest art. These metal orbs added an interesting aspect to the garden.
Even filling an old birdbath with succulents in a spiral pattern makes for pretty Yard Art.
And colorful painted trellises become Yard Art!
But they also have lots of little items you can purchase to add to your garden, too! Isn’t this Flying Pig adorable?
Here’s a cute little Butterfly Catcher!
And a Bug Planter.
This metal Cicada would make an interesting element to add to any garden.
And here is another cute Bug Planter.
These little metal Bicycle Planters were cute, too!
And aren’t these just adorable? Terra cotta Cup & Saucer and Teapot Planters!
And these Wrought Iron Succulent Planters would look awesome on a wall in the garden.
They really are quite lovely and they had so many to choose from!
And they even have classic planters, like this Bust Planter, along with urns and other garden standards.
I think the best thing to do when you need inspiration for your own garden is to go visit your local nursery. The folks that work there are full of information and ideas. They want your garden to be a success and they can help you find inspiring ideas as well as new plants to bring home and add to your backyard paradise. When was the last time you took in some of your local garden art at your local nursery?
