I am running a little behind on my lists, so I will post a few this week to catch up while I recuperate at home from my surgery. Today’s list is good places to walk. These will be some of my favorite places to walk.
- Growing up, we lived in a hollow on Fort Lewis Mountain and there was a creek and woods across the road. And if you crossed the creek and went up a little bank, there were nature trails that had been put in behind the local high school. I remember spending many spring, summer and fall hours exploring the woods through those nature trails.
- The beach – Keith and I can walk for hours on the beach, any beach. My favorite is Ocean Isle Beach. When the tide goes out you can walk way out on the sand.
- The woods around Bluestone, WV. We love to stay there with our friends and they have some great trails at the State Park. The woods there are so quiet and you cannot hear anything of the outside world.
- Speaking of West Virginia, the farm where our friends live. They have a large area where you can walk, even if it is just through a field that has been mowed. It is a special and beautiful place.
- Bridgewalk in Fayetteville, WV, is another fun place to walk. I have completed it twice and loved it both times.
- In June, we had the opportunity to visit Steigerwald Lake with our family in Washington State. It is a beautiful wildlife refuge along the Columbia River. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. It was amazing.
- Pretty much any state or national park can be an amazing walk. And historic places like Colonial Williamsburg offer great places to walk while taking in history.
- I also enjoy urban walks, like the downtown market area of my hometown or large places like New York City, Vancouver, WA or cities and towns in Europe. Walking through a pedestrian friendly city can open your eyes to beautiful architecture, interesting people and new perspectives.
