These are apps that I use and love on my iPhone and iPad. No particular order, but I will try to keep them grouped by category and explain why I use them or love them.
- Weather
- The Weather Channel – This is our go to app for checking weather while we are out and about and I often will use it while I am at work to see what the drive home will be like.
- Weather Whiskers – This is a fun app that shows cute little kitties in all kinds of weather along with your local weather and extended forecast.
- Intellicast – This is the app we use when checking radar for hurricanes and other severe storms. They have some of the best radar for tracking storms.
- WunderMap by Weather Underground – This one is new and what I like about it is the fact that you can find local weather stations close to your home and get a much more accurate reading on what is going on right in your neighborhood.
- Local TV News Weather App – Ours is good about alerting you not only to weather issues but traffic issues, which is always good to know.
- Travel
- Airline Apps – I use several, depending on which airline we are flying. These are great for storing boarding passes, looking up flight information, etc., basically anything that has to do with your flight.
- Maps – This is the app that comes with your iPhone. The issues have been fixed now and it works better than our GPS in our car.
- Clock – When traveling, this is the best and most reliable alarm clock.
- Charmin’s Sit or Squat – This app lets you find public restrooms located nearby and gives you ratings based on user feedback. Comes in handy when you are in an area you are not familiar with and need to go!
- Finance
- Basically, I use any that my financial institutions have. My local bank has one that allows me to pay bills, view account balances and deposit checks without having to go to the bank itself. I make a habit to check my balances frequently. We have had issues with identity theft and this is a quick way to see what is going on in my accounts. I also use the one that my credit card company has to check purchases in the same manner. And finally, my investment company has one that lets me do the same, check my balances in the different accounts that I have or transfer funds, etc. All of these are very convenient.
- Social Media
- Instagram – This is my favorite app. I love taking pictures with my phone and this allows me to share them with friends and family. The IG community is wonderful and there are some very talented phone photographers out there.
- WordPress – This app lets me update our blog from my iPhone or iPad, another convenience.
- Pinterest – This is my addiction. I love Pinterest and having the app on my phone makes waiting at the doctor or dentist much more enjoyable.
- Twitter – I am not a big tweeter, but I do follow several news sites along with friends so that I can find out what is going on in the world quickly. People will tweet immediately when there is news happening.
- You Tube – This is another app that can be used to entertain as well as social media. I have found lots of tutorials on You Tube and have learned how to make slipcovers, jewelry, you name it!
- Pippit – Pippit is kind of like Instagram, except you can link it to your blog so that when you publish a new post, it will go out to the Pippit community just like Twitter. You can also tag images with URL links which is cool. When people click on the links they will be taken to the URL, so it’s a great way to promote your brand or items you sell.
- Tumbler – This one is still new to me. I have my blog linked to it, so it’s another way to get my posts out there. I am still figuring this one out.
- Photography
- Camera + (plus) – What can I say about this that makes sense? This just makes the iPhone’s camera better! It also has editing capabilities, but I just like how the pictures taken using this app are crisper and all around better.
- Pic Tap Go – This is another app for editing your images, allowing you to add filters and create “recipes” based on filter combinations that you put together. It’s my go to for quick edits of images.
- Letter Glow – This app does a lot of the same when it comes to editing, but it also allows you to add text and graphics. What I really like about this app is the fact that I can add a custom watermark to my images (like the TLK Logo you see here on the blog) and then upload those images to WordPress from this app. Time saver.
- Bubble Frame – This app has cool background images you can add to your creations and now has these really cool templates for adding multiple images to your project. And you can add text on paths, so to speak, by using their “bubbles” which leads to some really cool possibilities.
- Lumie – This app allows me to add bokeh images, those little highlights or sunspots that are cool looking.
- Waterlogue – This app allows you to turn your photo into a painting and it does a really good job.
- Collect – This app is used daily to track my Project Life 365 photos. It sends you a reminder every day to “collect” your photo and add it to your calendar. You can add keywords for searching, titles and descriptions. And you can export your images in several cool ways to print or post, like my monthly Project Life Calendars here on the blog.
- Framatic Pro – This app allows you to place multiple photos into your project using their templates. They also have backgrounds and cute little frames and embellishments.
- Alt Photo – This app is pure grunge and cool. It has filters and frames to add drama to images.
- Snapseed – This is an app I use a lot for adding texture. It has a ton of cool features for editing and some nice frames, too.
- Phonto – This is my go to for adding text to photos. You can add your own fonts, so I added some dingbat fonts to use for holidays or other fun events. But for just adding text, this is easy and quick.
- Studio – This is a newer app for me and I love it. They have tons of “packs” of graphics you can add to your photos to make them interesting, but what I like the most is the community and the remix option. The Studio Community is VERY creative and they come up with some of the coolest ways to add quotes or just fun stuff to photos. And with the remix button, if you like something that someone else did, you can remix that onto one of your own photos. I steel shamelessly here.
- A Beautiful Mess -Another cute app for editing photos and adding graphics and text to post on Social Media.
- Adobe Kuler – This app lets you capture color combinations from an image. You see this all the time on Pinterest and I think there is even a paint company doing something similar. You pick the colors from your image to create your theme. It will give you the HEX and RGB codes for your colors should you want to use them later in design and you can name and save your themes to share with the Kuler Community
- RhonnaDesigns – RD Magic – These two apps are created by Rhonna Farrer, a goddess in the scrapbooking world and let me tell you, they are just pure joy to use. They can be used interchangeably, and there are so many options for “stickers” and other cute things to add to your images. Sometimes I will just start without an image and create quotes or inspiring images to share. Thank goodness for her vision and the creative team that brought these two apps to life.
- Flipagram – This is a fun app that allows you to take a group of pictures and make a video with them. You can adjust the timing and choose the number of images that you use. It’s a fun way to document a group of images for the same event, such as a vacation or celebration.
- PS Touch – Now this is an app I only use on my iPad, but I think it is available for iPhones, too. It is Photoshop for iPads. Not all the bells and whistles of the Creative Cloud, but it does come in handy for working in layers with images.
- Lifestyle
- Health Care Apps – Our local hospital and medical network has an app that links all my prescriptions and medical info together for easy access. This came in handy recently when I was admitted to the emergency room and the doctor needed to know the dosage of my medications. I opened the app and handed my phone to him and he was able to get all the information that he needed since I was admitted to a hospital in a different network.
- Nook – Self explanatory – Download reading into your iPad
- Pandora – I love listening at work.
- Bloglovin – This is a blog reader app that allows you to track the blogs that you read in one place. It’s another great way to pass time when you are somewhere waiting for periods of time. You can catch up on your blogs in one spot.
- Merlin by Cornell Labs – This is a newer app for us that we love. It helps track and identify birds that you see. Keith saw a bird that he was not sure about and using the app we were quickly able to identify it as a juvenile red wing black bird, which is not common to our back yard. And when we track it, it sends the data to Cornell so that they can track bird populations.
- Kelby One – This is an iPad app that I use for video tutorials on Adobe products. Great resource!
- Watch ESPN – iPad app that we use a lot during College Softball season.
- Cox Connect – iPad app from our cable provider that allows us to watch anything on our iPad anywhere in our house, or on the deck outside, which is always nice.
Now, I listed a lot of apps here. But I am sure that for all that I listed, there are hundreds more out there that I didn’t list. And I have other apps that I use infrequently, too. After listing all of them, I just could not believe how much easier they have made my life or how entertaining they are. I remember when iPhones first came out and people starting talking about apps. I thought they were just crazy. Man, was I wrong!
