I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. About two months ago I received an email from someone about one of my pictures of FAA. They wanted to know if they could use the image in an upcoming publication. Wow. That sounded too good to be real. The publication is the New River Gorge Adventure Guide published several times a year to promote the New and Gauley Rivers in West Virginia. WOW!
This is a guide to the area and attractions around the New River Gorge, promoting tourism, adventure and the natural playground surrounding the Gorge in central West Virginia. Ok, so this was a real publication and the editor wanted to use a picture of mine for the upcoming Fall edition. WOW!!!! The picture she was interested in was the New River Gorge Bridge Catwalk. She had found the image on FAA and thought it would fit perfectly with the article they were doing on the Beauty of the Bridge.
It didn’t take me long to jump at the chance to have an image of mine published. I was still kind of in shock when I was interviewed for the article. It was definitely a new experience and again, I was so excited. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before. I was being considered to be showcased with the likes of some much more professional photographers with their awesome images of the Bridge.
I had been anxiously awaiting the Fall issue’s publication. I had no idea how it would turn out. I figured that it was still an honor to be considered, even if my image got cut during final editing. You know how you always think the worst. Well, I can say I did not get cut during the editing. The title on the front cover really describes the story conveyed. The bridge is beautiful. I remember when I was interviewed talking with the editor about the beauty of the structure. The gorge itself was naturally beautiful, but the bridge was a man made work of art. And, by looking at the title, I was one of six chosen to showcase the beauty of the bridge. WOWOW!
Well, of course I wanted to see how it turned out, so I quickly started flipping through the online interactive copy on the New River Gorge Adventure Guide site. When I got to the Table of Contents, I screamed with delight! On the left was my picture as a callout for the story! Out of the six photographers in the article, my shot made the table of contents page! Oh My GOODNESS!!!! Can you tell I am excited?????
Well, all I can say is I can’t believe they picked my image. After looking at the other great images of the bridge, I am still in shock and awe. There are some great images represented by some very talented photographers. But I am thrilled, really thrilled. And I like the story written about the shot. I will have to tell the whole story in another blog since this month I am taking the challenge of 31 Days of Falloween posts. And since this is the Fall Issue of this publication, I figured I could squeeze it in. Because I have to share my excitement.
If you have a chance, you should go visit this beautiful bridge on Bridge Day this fall. You can walk across the bridge, watch people jump off the bridge, enjoy the crafts and take in the natural playground in central West Virginia known as the New River Gorge.
